To most of us, including professional web designers, web hosting is just a way of having our site up on the web. We rarely tend to think about the consequences of our choice of web hosting service or what it means for the future of our internet business, our website.
Most hosting companies promise quite a number of things with their hosting packages.
Common place is 99.99% up-time, high or unlimited bandwidth, sky high storage figures and so on.
However, none promise you success in your business.
Of course, that is not really their business. Once you buy the hosting package, they are done. You already gave them business and that’s all they care about.
You might want to remember that once you have your site hosted with a certain hosting company, they have recurring business with you. You will need to renew this service with them every month or yearly, recurring income to them and recurring spending for you.
The question is, is there any hosting service that goes beyond this?
The other question one should ask themselves when buying a hosting service is, does the service advice you on best domain names to use? Do they also offer you web design tips that will help you build your web presence successfully?
The other question that begs an answer is, what about the cost.
Should it matter? A lot of web hosting services will offer you very cheap hosting packages. Some will even entice you with a free domain with the hosting package. But are they worth that cheap cost?
In a nutshell, the answer to all the above questions lies with you. Most of these web hosting services will offer you the same things only at different costs. The reality is, they are all almost the same, save for very minor differences. You should simply ask yourself, do you want just a website or do you intend on having a web business.
If your answer is the former, then go for the cheapest option. You will be getting all you need at that small cost. However, if your answer is the latter(you need a successful web business), then you might want to disregard the cost and go for quality of service and the perks it comes with.
Look for a service that offers all those basic promises like very high up-time, large bandwidth, unlimited space and so on. On top of this, look at the bonus packages it comes with.
For instance,
- Does your web hosting service offer help on choosing the best domain name
- Does it guide you on how to make a successful website/web business
- Does it guarantee you success(probably with a 2 or 3 month money back guarantee if you are unsuccessful)
- Does it come with helpful research tools for a perfect web business
- Does it have an easy to follow video or written guide or both on creating your online business
- Do they have tools to help you make your website especially if you are a newbie
- How is the customer support program. Do they offer support for web hosting only or even go ahead and offer support on how to make a successful web business
- Do they have clients’ forums where customers can meet and discuss the service as well as have their questions answered
- Do they have a blog that gives their clients updates on what’s new in the market and web businesses
- Do they have a list of easily accessible testimonials of people who have used their service and succeeded in making big businesses online
- Can you be able to contact the testimonials directly to verify their testimony
- Do they offer other related guides on how to succeed online, for instance, how to write content for your website
- Do they help you get rid of the noise in the web business platforms and give you only necessary information regularly
- If you are new to web businesses or you simply don’t have time to make your own successful online business, can they help or even make the business for you at affordable cost
Well, I can go on and on and on, but these are some of the questions that should have a direct answer if you seek a successful online business, and not just hosting you on the web. Make sure to ask you prospective or current hosting service provider whether they offer these. If they don’t offer even one of the above, you might want to reconsider your decision. Don’t fall for the cheap cost or some of the promises they make you. Ask for proof and testimony. After all, it is your business to succeed.
